(For some reason my previous post had some issues so I’m redoing it)
Villainous Nickname:
Professor Poisonous (AKA Cosmos)
Modus Operandi:
I prefer using quieter methods to get things done, and if I don’t have to be there in person I won’t be! Often, people never even remember a thing thanks to a little so-and-so from my lab or a well placed piece of blackmail. The best way to stay ahead in the villain game is to make sure they never even knew you were there!
About my lair:
My lair is filled with a wide mixture of things including plants and technology. I tend to think of it as an eclectic mix of witchcraft and computers. Why yes that is a fully functioning laboratory in my basement, no you may not touch anything!
My secret weapon:
My little notebook filled with all the delicious secrets people tell me (whether they remember them or not)
What are you most looking forward to about 007 Fest 2023:

Villainous catchphrase:
“Won’t you have some tea?”
Not only can prisoners not vote in the US, once you've been convicted of a felony (a very large category of crimes that prosecutors like to find excuses to fit people into), you can never vote again for the rest of your life.
Oh that is fucked, that is fucked beyond belief, that shouldn’t be allowed
This is actually not true of the entire US! It depends on the state. When I worked in Ohio, we would encounter people who incorrectly believed they couldn't vote because of past felonies.
16 states allow people with felony convictions to vote once their sentence is complete.
9 states have restrictions on voting rights for people with felon convictions. Some of these are effectively a ban. One of these states is Florida, which passed a referendum to restore voting rights to people with felony convictions who had completed their sentence, but the DeSantis administration has found various loopholes to continue restricting voting.
23 states ban prisoners from voting but allow people with felony convictions to vote if they are not in prison.
2 states, Maine and Vermont, allow everyone to vote.
OP, I know you're not American and may or may not be interested in this, but it's important for any Americans seeing this to know that depending on where they live they may in fact have the right to vote. Misinformation about this is a form of voter suppression.
Also if you live in a state where prisoners and/or felons can’t vote, CALL YOUR REPS. Start talking to friends and family. Network. Get it on the ballot.
you know what. i am physically sick as hell this week so i'll bite. i read the original slate article, which is free to read so i don't know why OP chose to screenshot instead of let people draw their own conclusions. i agree with MANY of the writer's points on the need for comprehensive criminal justice reform, but i also care a lot about numbers and stats and increasingly, this bullshit "democrats are the same as republicans" messaging is straight-up delivered using propaganda tactics
this is going to be an incredibly long post and i had to use GOOGLE SLIDES and GOOGLE SHEETS which i hate so so much so in the words of twitter kpop stans please don't let this flop
let's look at the numbers, claim by claim
claim #1: "the number of people held in ICE detention has increased by 70 percent since Biden took office"
claim #2: "the federal prison population has grown for the first time in a decade"
last claim: "federal covid relief funds are being used to pad local police budgets"
SO all of that to say
Some time has passed. Have your views changed, at all?
i think this question is for me so i will try to answer briefly, though lmk if it was intended for op lmao
also i'll answer on the assumption it was asked in good faith:
do i still think that democrats and republicans are not the same? yes; i don't have the time today to refresh charts etc., but a very quick glance at the same sources i used the first time around looks like the numbers have remained more or less stable. happy to take correction here if anyone has more time to delve
on immigration specifically, do i think reform is still needed? yes; in particular i do think there should be close scrutiny of how the numbers trend as the biden admin continues to announce and enact its proposed policies if the PHE does indeed expire in may
on criminal justice specifically, do i think reform is still needed? yes; and importantly here it's worth keeping track of what the dem white house and dem congresspeople are trying to do vs what is able to happen (e.g. George Floyd Act)
do i still think dems-and-repubs-are-the-same reeks of voter-suppression propaganda? yes, and even more so when the evidence continues to pile up that dem legislatures and leaders at every level are making real progress on issues that we all purport to care about. who benefits when certain types of voters feel like their vote doesn't matter? the people who want to disenfranchise them!
do i still think it's important to contextualize data and question sources and stats? yes!!!!!!!!!! yes!!!! and i know it's not easy and it's time-consuming, but again: who benefits when we don't approach information with a critical mind? not us!
do i still think it's important to vote? yes yes yes yes yes yes yes
am i still going to abuse bullet points? yeah
it's so wild when people complain about religious inclusion like "oh so you think THEY should get special privileges/accommodations to do x, y, or z??"
and the things they're talking about are like. exceptions to rules or norms that in themselves shouldn't exist. yes Richard, we actually should have diverse meal options at work events to accommodate people with different diets. yes, people should be allowed to take time off to be with their family during whatever holidays or life events they so choose. yes, people should be able to wear clothing that makes them comfortable. nobody should be happy about these restrictions existing. stop bitching about the singular jewish or muslim person in your workplace and realize that everyone deserves better.
I had an interesting experience recently, which I feel like culturally Christian people might benefit from hearing about. I've been recently in the process of helping to plan an event. Many attendees at this event keep kosher. Since kashrut is a very specialized dietary restriction, which I know not all venues can accommodate, my first question to all of the potential venues I've looked into has been "do you allow outside kosher catering vendors, or otherwise have some way to allow for kosher catering?"
One of the venues I reached out to replied that they were "capable of providing for our dietary needs." Now, since I'd asked about several possible catering options, and since they'd only replied generally and without actually specifying which they were saying they could do, I was a bit suspicious. So I followed up, and asked what exactly they meant by that: did they allow outside caterers in general? or did they have a specific kosher catering partner? or could they actually cater kosher food themselves? what?
Their answer was – and I swear I'm not making this up – that they didn't allow any outside caterers, and couldn't cater any food which was actually kosher, but that they could provide us with a menu that included "knishes" and "potato, pancakes" [sic], and so hey, that was basically the same as providing for our dietary needs, wasn't it?
Now here's the thing:
The dietary restriction shared by the most people at this event is keeping kosher, but one of the attendees, who doesn't keep kosher, has a severe peanut allergy. If we had done what we were planning to do and simply specified "peanut free", and if the venue had decided, like they were apparently willing to do for the kosher food, "well ok, it's not actually peanut free, but it's mostly peanut free, and that's basically the same thing"? They could have literally killed her. And if I hadn't specifically asked, in detail, about kosher catering first, I might never have known about how lax they were about providing for dietary restrictions in general.
Now could we have explained the nuances of kosher restrictions to this venue and tried again? Yes, possibly. But their unwillingness to even try on the first pass made it abundantly clear that they were not a safe venue to work with on allergy grounds. We crossed the venue off our list immediately, and I reached out to other people in the area who I knew might be planning similar events in the future, and warned them to never use this venue, either.
Accommodations like this are instances of the curb cut effect. If you don't personally have a diet or a family obligation or clothing needs that need accommodating, it's easy to get annoyed at the people you see who are loudest about asking for those accommodations. But having those options available helps everyone, and the fact that some workplaces and and businesses and event vendors refuse to accommodate these needs should be a red flag to everyone.
Maybe you don't care about kosher or hallal food. Maybe you've never had reason to take off work at an unusual time of year, and maybe you've never wanted or needed to wear anything unusual. But today it's your Jewish or Muslim coworker, and tomorrow it could be you or someone you care about – with a surprise medical diagnosis that limits your diet, or with a sudden family emergency at an inconvenient time of year, or with a sensory problem you've struggled with your entire life but can no longer mask, or who knows what else. We all deserve better, and the people who are openly saying so are not your enemies.

The quiet part couldn't get any louder. She's just... saying this with get full chest.
You can't make this up.
They make fun of Millennials every other week like "Millennials canceling paper towels. Millennials canceling diamonds." Then they go out and try to cancel... kids learning empathy?
So confused.

you guys know you can get USB connectable CD, dvd, and blu-ray players right. and you can buy external hard drives with crazy amounts of space for an amount of money that would make the average person from 2009’s head explode bc of how cheap it is. and if you do this and get ripping software such as handbrake for CDs and DVDs and makeMKV for blurays you can both own a physical copy of whatever media you want and make it accessible to yourself no matter where you are. do you guys know this
ever since my gf and i moved in together a couple years ago i've been semi-regularly executing something i call a "prank night." this is something you want to do frequently enough that it's not a special occasion, but spontaneously enough to make it a prank. the set-up for a prank night is simple
now you can execute the four core aspects of the prank night
The Look On The Girlfriend's Face Will Be Awesome!
it's actually terrifying how quickly the concept of self care (originally a radical concept rooted in the black panther party's efforts to support other black ppl living through racism) became another tool of self-management which is viewed as both a moral obligation + an individual responsibility. businesses + employers + other institutions now easily wield it as a progressive way to say "if you're upset about xyz, make yourself get over it". "we are going to treat you like shit + you need to learn how to cope with that or else you're doing something wrong"
i have seen job listings where "ability to practice self care" was listed as a requirement for employment. as a case worker, we were repeatedly drilled on "self-care" as a response to unconscionably high case loads, traumatizing experiences, dead end job obligations, + poor living conditions due to subpar pay/high stress. my clients would go to appointments regarding their evictions, food insecurity, active domestic violence situations, etc + receive tips on "self care" without any tangible community, legal, or structural support to follow.
everyone absolutely deserves to care for themselves + it is useful to circulate affirmations + advice on how to do this. this should happen within communities, through a sincere concern/love for one another, as a way of helping everyone live the best life possible while we work towards total liberation. it should not be a replacement for caring for one another!!! it should be one of many ways of caring for one another!!!
a publisher reached out to me about doing a foraging book and I just like
no one wants that book i'd write, it would just be an entire book about all the different land use histories of urban spaces and why they're full of heavy metals. the plants I *want* to write and draw about would practically be a footnote compared to the worried-auntie-warnings
i insisted on including lead in the gardening book because I gotta
